Sport Around the World: 9/7-9/11

Here’s this week’s update on sports around the world.

English Premier League

The English Premier League is under scrutiny for its player loan system — with Chelsea currently “hogging / stockpiling / investing in” – call it what you want – the bulk of the players in the league.

Read more about the story here.

Cycling

Lots of injuries at Vuelta a Espana (Spain).  Belgian rider Kris Boeckman has been in an induced choma since a crash during Stage 8 on August 30th.  Several other players have had to pull out from injuries received in crashes.  And current Tour De France title holder Chris Froome has had to drop out because of a broken foot.

This video, from GoPro, lets you experience the course from the rider’s view —including the Stage 8 crasj.

Surfing!

Swatch Women’s Pro

The Swatch Women’s Pro – stop #7 in the World Championship Tour – is happening in Southern California.  Bethany Hamilton won the wildcard and will be competing just 3 months after giving birth!

Hurley Pro

Brevard’s own Kelly Slater will be competing in the Hurley Pro Men’s Championship competition in Southern California.
